ACAT GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY HELPS SOLVE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUES
Catalytic converter thefts are skyrocketing, but ACAT Global’s technology offers replacements that deliver real benefits for both the public and environment.
Catalytic converters have been in the news a lot lately, but not for their ability to clean emissions from internal combustion engines. Sadly, catalytic converters are making headlines due to the dramatic spike in thefts and occasional high-profile busts of thieves trafficking in stolen converters.
Catalytic converters are desired by thieves for their precious metal content, which includes platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Recently enacted state laws have made it more difficult to easily off-load catalytic converters to scrap metal buyers, so increasingly, they are being stolen and simply offered back for sale on the black market.
The need to replace a catalytic converter is an unexpected financial burden for any vehicle owner, and in recent years many have felt the sting. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, claims for stolen catalytic converters surged 325 percent from 2019 to 2020, and that number is set to rise dramatically when this year’s figures are factored in. Carfax.com investigated service reports for catalytic converter replacements, and according to their findings, the cars most likely to be targeted nationwide include the Ford F-150, Honda Accord, Jeep Patriot, Ford Econoline, Chevy Silverado, Chevy Equinox, Honda CR-V,
Toyota Camry, Chrysler 200, and Toyota Prius. If there is any silver lining to this discouraging crime wave, it is that a stolen catalytic converter offers the victim an opportunity to upgrade. One company offering replacement catalytic converters with proven advantages is ACAT Global. The company was formed in 2010 with the acquisition of General Motors-developed catalytic converter substrate technology and related production assets from Delphi. They offer Ceramic substrate and proprietary Herringbone Pattern Metallic substrate catalytic converters for universal or direct fit installation. ACAT Global’s metallic substrate catalytic converters comply with Federal standards and its technology meets California emissions compliance.
For the consumer, there are measurable benefits to installing an ACAT Global catalytic converter, including increased gas mileage, more power and less expense than factory replacement cats.
“Catalytic converter thefts have skyrocketed worldwide, which has led to environmental damage as well as an increased financial burden on consumers for replacement catalytic converters,” said Joe Moch, CEO of ACAT Global. “Foreign supply chain issues and daunting OEM costs are making it difficult for consumers to install replacement units. Our ‘made in USA’ catalytic converters can help rectify that grim situation.
“Our metallic substrate catalytic converters are federally compliant and the technology is already available in products in many of the ‘green states’ today,” Moch continued. “This groundbreaking tech can improve gas mileage by as much as 12 percent, which translates into huge consumer savings given current fuel prices. In addition to reducing fuel expenditures, these same catalytic converters significantly reduce emissions without sacrificing performance. Compared to standard ceramic solutions, our technology cuts emissions significantly, which will reducegreenhouse gas emissions today.”
In July 2022, ACAT Global announced it would also license its revolutionary technology to automakers and other companies. With the slow pace of infrastructure development for electric vehicles, it will be many years before EVs become the majority transportation solution, meaning that catalytic converter technology like ACAT Global’s will be able to continue making a significant impact on emissions reduction while providing consumers some financial relief.
“The cost of less effective ceramic catalytic converters typically fitted to vehicles are projected to increase up to 300 percent this year,” said Moch. “Our Federal compliant metallic core technology is not subject to the same price increase. And through our licensing program, OEMs can build vehicles with better fuel efficiency while slicing emissions without increasing costs. Automakers, environmental groups and the public should embrace this opportunity to make an immediate positive impact.”
Thieves may have their moments of success, but ACAT Global’s catalytic converters offer the public the chance to bounce back stronger than ever.
ACAT Global to License Revolutionary Catalytic Convertor Technology to Combat Climate Crisis, Address Skyrocketing Fuel Costs
CHARLEVOIX, MICHIGAN – July 6, 2022 – For the first time, ACAT Global will license its revolutionary emissions control technology for internal combustion engines to automakers and other companies. The license will give companies a proven cost-effective technology they can leverage to manufacture catalytic converters as they help governments and environmental groups combat the climate crisis and save consumers significant money on fuel purchases.
“Our metallic substrate catalytic converters are federally compliant and the technology is already available in products in many of the ‘green states’ today,” said Joe Moch, CEO of ACAT Global. “This groundbreaking tech can improve gas mileage by as much as 12 percent, which translates into huge consumer savings given current fuel prices. In addition to reducing fuel expenditures, these same catalytic converters significantly reduce emissions without sacrificing performance. Compared to standard ceramic solutions, our technology cuts emissions significantly, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions today.”
ACAT Global was formed in 2010 with the acquisition of General Motors-developed catalytic converter substrate technology and related production assets from Delphi. Senior Delphi engineers joined the company at that time, as well. Now other companies worldwide can access their expertise.
ACAT Global replacement metallic substrate catalytic converters are federal and in most applications CARB compliant for vehicles. The patented technology is also applicable to diesel engines of all varieties, including Light/Medium/Heavy Duty trucks, as well as power generators. The converters can reduce pollutants for coal burning stacks, cargo ships, furnaces and any power generation platform that needs catalyzation.
Current government regulations and slow adoption of the technology by carmakers has limited the implementation of these catalytic converters.
“Most automakers do not feel the urgency to cut emissions because of a lack of government enforcement of emissions standards,” said Matthew G. Frankel, MD and National Advisory Board member for the Union of Concerned Scientists. “The recent Supreme Court decision further hampers government agencies from setting and enforcing emissions standards. The automakers are also putting a greater emphasis on Electric Vehicles to decrease overall emissions. This is unrealistic for two reasons. First, supply chain issues, like lithium production, and the lack of enough batteries being produced limits EV production. Second, and maybe most important, is that the U.S. power grid is ill-equipped and unprepared to produce enough charging stations to handle the demand for the projected number of EVs. In fact, the grid may be decades away from meeting the demand for future EV production.
For all these reasons, it is more important than ever to do what we can to improve emissions from all internal combustion engines now, from cars and trucks to power generation units, all the way down to gas-powered blowers and other powered lawn and garden tools. ACAT’s unique catalytic converter technology can meet all these needs so we can decrease harmful emissions and air pollution now while our planet ramps up sustainable, emission-free energy sources for the future.”
Results from independent laboratories have consistently proven ACAT’s claims. During testing for submission to federal and California ARB officials, the company’s metallic substrate catalytic converters were proven to increase gas mileage by 12 percent, as well as cut NMOG by 33 percent, slash CO emissions by 20 percent and drop the dreaded NOx by 75 percent. NMOG, CO and NOx are all harmful compounds created from the burning of fossil fuels and the main contributors to poor air quality.
ACAT Global’s technology has also been limited by antiquated government regulations worldwide.
“Current government rules were written to increase the reliability and lifespan of catalytic converters but have actually stymied the adoption of game-changing technology,” said Moch. “Consumers are barred from replacing a catalytic converter with one of our units on a vehicle unless the car, truck or SUV is over seven years old. Those who’ve had their catalytic converter stolen must install an expensive OEM unit, even though it costs more and is much less effective than ours. It’s outrageous that someone seeking to ease their cost at the pump, comply with emissions rules or even choose to reduce their carbon footprint cannot install this equipment. It is time for rules to be updated.”
Currently, the converters are made in Michigan and offered through distributors worldwide. ACAT Global’s catalytic converters are available as a universal or direct fit system through independent shops. The reliable metallic catalysts use proprietary technology, engineered for easy installation, form, fit and function.
“The cost of less effective ceramic catalytic converters typically fitted to vehicles are projected to increase up to 300 percent this year,” said Moch. “Our Federal compliant metallic core technology is not subject to the same price increase. And through our licensing program, OEM’s can build vehicles with better fuel efficiency while slicing emissions without increasing costs. Automakers, environmental groups and the public should embrace this opportunity to really make an immediate positive impact.”

ACAT Global can reduce the pain that Americans are experiencing at the gas pump
Catalytic Converter Technology from ACAT Global Can Ease Gasoline Price Hike Shocks and Reduce Emissions
CHARLEVOIX, MICHIGAN – March 18, 2022 – Advanced catalytic converter technology available from ACAT Global can reduce the pain that Americans are experiencing at the gas pump, cutting their bills by as much as $280 per year while also significantly reducing climate-damaging greenhouse gases. Available for domestic and import vehicles, the emissions control technology in the company’s Metallic Series Catalytic Converters are US federal compliant; it is also California Air Resources Board compliant for many applications under the Executive Orders published on the CARB website.
Unfortunately, more automakers need to embrace the opportunity to help consumers save money by adding the robust catalytic converter solution to vehicles.
“The suffering of Americans at the pump would be much less if our technology was universally embraced,” said Joe Moch, CEO of ACAT Global. “Our proven, American made metallic catalytic converters can improve gas mileage by as much as 12 percent, which translates into huge savings for consumers, especially at current fuel prices. No one should have to choose between filling their tank to get to work and refilling their prescription or paying the rent.”
In addition to reducing consumer spending on fuel, ACAT Global’s metallic catalysts significantly reduce emissions without sacrificing performance. Whether an OEM catalytic converter needs to be replaced because it no longer functions or was stolen, it can easily be installed by a local shop. Compared to alternative industry standard ceramic solutions, ACAT’s technology performs 33 percent better for NMOG, 20 percent better for CO and 75 percent better in NOx reduction.
“We’re working closely with various government agencies to implement retrofit programs, as well as replacement for stolen catalytic converters nationwide,” said Moch. “We are developing new distribution channels and tools to teach technicians how to quickly install our technology on passenger vehicles. Unfortunately, existing legislation precludes implementation of our technology to many late model cars and some OEMs are slow to embrace the opportunity to incorporate it. We welcome any environmental, consumer and legislative group that wants to review our independent tests and help put this innovative solution into action immediately. The public deserves relief.”
ACAT is working with major OEMs in the automotive, motorcycle and recreational vehicle industries to leverage its ground-breaking technologies. Rigorous testing regimens are being conducted so that ACAT Global can conduct government certification processes for more vehicle applications.
According to the United States EPA’s most recent data, Americans used 123.73 billion gallons of gasoline in 2020. With 228.2 million drivers, that equates to 542.68 gallons of gasoline for a total of $2,344.36 spent on fuel at an average price of $4.32 per gallon; this is the average for the USA per AAA. The EPA also published that the average vehicle reached 25.4 MPG in 2020. ACAT Global’s federal compliant technology can improve mileage by up to 3.5 MPG, raising the average to 28.9, which is about 12 percent better. That equates to a savings by the average American of $281.32. Consumers in areas with much higher prices, such as California, would enjoy much better savings.
